STATEMENT: projection of text on wall, postcards, 2016

   Projected on the wall of a Tesco store, “statement” is a sentence that came to the author’s mind during his walks through the city when he was contemplating the local art scene and its functioning. When creating this artwork, the author utilized his apartment’s location to the fullest extent and projected the sentence from his balcony, placing the statement into a bubble in a way that it looked like it was said by a female model in one the store’s advertisement signboards. At the same time, the author parasitized on the popular and well-attended event White Night that took place during the projection.

   Later, he moved this work into another dimension. At the currently already non-existent Beastro bar, the author projected the bubble with the statement “Bratislava’s art scene is fucked up” on the wall, encouraging visitors to take a picture with the bubble, in case they agreed with the statement. The exhibition was accompanied by thematic postcards that could be taken away and sent. 

   It is not common for Barényi to engage in and comment on impersonal topics or situations on the local art scene where he belongs.  In this case, however, he changed his personal opinion into public art, shifted his personal thoughts into the public space, and this as such is a feature distinctive for his works.

   Autor na stenu obchodného domu tesco premieta vetu, ktorá mu napadla pri prechádzke mestom pri rozmýšľaní nad miestnou umeleckou scénou a jej fungovaním. Autor využil danosť bytu v ktorom žije, a zo svojho balkóna premietal túto vetu do bubliny tak, že pôsobí, ako by ju hovorila žena ktorá leží vo výklade obchodného domu oproti. Zároveň týmto dielom autor parazitoval na práve prebiehajúcej populárnej a hojne navštevovanej akcii Biela Noc.

   Neskôr túto prácu autor posunul o ďalší rozmer. V už neexistujúcom bare Beastro premietal bublinu s textom „Bratislavská umelecká scéna je v piči“ na stenu, a návštevníkom baru ponúkal možnosť s bublinou sa vyfotiť, v prípade že s týmto výrokom súhlasia. Výstavu doplnil o pohľadnice, ktoré si záujemcovia mohli vziať a rozposlať.

   Pre Barényiho práce nie je typická angažovanosť a komentovanie neosobných tém, alebo diania na umeleckej scéne ktorej je súčasťou. V tomto prípade ale osobný názor zmenil na public art, osobné posunul do verejnej roviny, a to je črta pre Barényiho práce typická.
